Marianne the easiest solution would be to take the darkest color in your marble from the veins and get a tile that color. You could also put down a medium to dark wood.

If you like the marble but don't want the actual stone on the floor, you can get marble-look porcelain tiles.
If you don't want the marble look at all, I think a medium-gray strié tile looks nice, or the ceramic or porcelain ones that look like wood.
Large hexagons are nice too.

Porcelain tiles are very slippery when they get wet. We made the mistake of putting them in our front door foyer. I can't tell how many times i almost fell. We ended up putting a rug there which hid our pretty tiles and saved our necks.
