How to make a DIY patio?
We just bought a house with a fantastic backyard, but there is no patio. Our grill and outdoor seating is on the ground. How can I create an inexpensive, beautiful, boho inspired low maintenance patio?

Decide on your shape. Pull up the sod, tamp down the ground, put down a layer or landscaping cloth to prevent weeds, lay in patio pavers of your choice in pattern of your choice with 3" between them and fill in with small landscaping pebbles. Line the design with whatever matches your home -- brick or stone or whatever. Environmentally friendly, not expensive as landscaping materials go, and you can do it yourself.
HELLO THERE, Use old Pallets, or Secondhand Slabs or a Membrane to suppress the weeds and Gravel...................
Concrete stepping stone patios are cheap, easy and popular. At this time of year they are on sale at just about every hardware or home improvement center for $1 or less each for the 12" size - where are you going to find flooring at a buck per square foot??? 🌞 If you purchase in bulk, they get even cheaper. Here is how!

I agree with the pavers. They are easy to lay and can be inexpensive if you don't go with the fancy ones. We purchased the rectangular ones for about a dollar a piece and didn't go the route with the sand and gravel underneath and it worked great with just the landscape cloth underneath. We went with putting them close together instead of putting down gravel, that way you could have less problem with placing the grill or furniture and not have them on gravel. See what you can find to make it the way you want it to look.
I agree with using patio blocks. At our old house I put down 18" x 18" to create a small court yard. I was lucky, the ground was pretty level. I pulled out the grass (mostly weeds) and laid down 6 bags of sand. I put the sand down to prevent any future problem of being leveled. Sand was $3 a bag. All in all, it was very nice when completed. Best of luck to you.
Clear out the grass, lay down weed barrier fabric and add pea gravel. Buy it in bulk for a better price.
Composite decking will be the option with the least maintenance, but it can be pretty expensive. If you're looking for something DIY friendly and inexpensive, I would recommend pavers (bricks would be fun!). Just be sure to take your time making sure the ground is very level and compressed (use a damper) before laying them. Good luck :)
