Design advice/ideas?
I have covered patio in my backyard but it’s only 9x11. I’m thinking about extending the patio in front of the windows but need some ideas without breaking the bank. My initial thought is to do some type of patio pavers with a pergola. Could I attach the pergola to the side of the house and the side of the patio cover and have just one post on the far corner? Any help or other design ideas welcomed?

pavers are a great idea. sometimes people sell used ones on different sites like “letgo”. A pergola or sail cloth would be nice

Just keep in mind that any structure you attach to the house will most likely have to be permitted, and be inspected. You can avoid this by sinking posts in the ground and cementing them in for your pergola. It will still be considered an outside structure so your insurance could increase. I only am aware of this because I have been researching to do the same thing to our home. I think we will be doing pavers to extend our patio and then a small deck with a pergola that is a floating deck (until I win the lottery). Best wishes.

Found my pavers free on Craigslist. Just check frequently but there are often pavers, bricks, and building materials free in my area.
home depot has some very attractive pergolas that are sturdy, but relatively light weight. Instead of anchoring the legs permanently , use tall containers to put the legs in & fill with a foot of sand, (use a level) then use potting soil etc. to create a container garden around the legs & plant some beautiful plants, maybe climbing vines?
Check with your town building inspector first about support and legality of doing this. A pergola is a simple and inexpensive build and would be easy for you to do. Here in Maine post holes have to be 4' deep a/c frost heave but you wouldn't have that in Texas.
I would check with building inspector and maybe a contractor.
Hi,
You could, but have you thought to have a retractable Awning instead, because that will not TAKE THE LIGHT FROM YOUR WINDOW ON THE DARK DAYS OF WINTER. Best wishes
You would need, not just one post on the corner, but also a support against the house and against the brick column. It would likely look very nice, but bear in mind it will make the room inside of your window darker.
