Bye bye popcorn ceilings!
We bought our house in late 1980’s. All the ceilings are popcorn ceilings and make rooms look so dated. How can the popcorn be removed and what is needed to repaint the ceilings

Water in a spray bottle , saturate wait for about 5 minutes and use spatula to scrape off just do not dig into the ceiling , that would damage the ceiling
Scrape or sand it down, wearing protective mask for face and eyes ,and hearing protection, if sanding.
Hi Donna! It is a very messy job that I've done in multiple homes. Here's some great instructions from right here on Hometalk. It is well worth the messy project to see that ugly stuff gone for good!

If the ceiling has not been painted it's as simple as spritzing it with water mixed with a little fabric softener, let soften a few minutes and scrape it off with a mudd or putty knife being careful to not gauge the ceiling with the sharp corners (tarp your floors first to catch all the softened popcorn!)

Donna..You can spray your ceiling with warm water using a garden sprayer... leave about 15 minutes. There is a video with Chase Brogan on Google showing how hem removes popcorn ceiling. You can purchase the removal bucket. He makes it look really easy and says he has been using it was 5 years. I have the same project that I want to do and after seeing how he does it I may also attempt. Have always heard it is a mess to do...watch his video! Good luck! www.pcrbucket.com
