Only pic I have at the time of writing this, but you can get the jest of it.
How to update our fireplace?
Our fire place is off center, in the dinning room and ugly. It has a wood hopper door on the left side that goes out to the garage. We don't have fires often, but want to keep it functional and all accessible.

Lori - What a beautiful family! I have seen before on HGTV when they have an off-center fireplace like this, they add shelving to the other side to give it more of a balanced look. Would you be interested in something like that?
I’m with you Lori. I’m attempting to “white wash” (or different colour) our fireplace this upcoming week. Our mantle though is made of concrete and so is the base down by opening. I’m thinking of painting those an “accent” colour. Like I said ... still thinking but got to think fast so. Can get this project done ASAP. Many YouTube videos on how to paint fireplaces too. I’ll post before and after once I’m done. Good luck.
I "white-washed" our brick fireplace and the difference it made was unbelievable. My husband did not want me to change it so when he was gone one week end I took on the job and when he came home he was very impressed and he really liked it. His favorite part was that I did it and he did not have too. Do it...you will love it.
Hi Lori, nice family picture....Is that toward the bottom a shelf?...Do you think you need it?, when/if you whitewash the brick you can take it off ?? A large mirror/family portrait can be added on top and a coat rack to right ?? JMO
It's the hearth at the bottom. I think Gray washing might be the right idea.
Lots of ideas on HomeTalk as well if you look at fireplace makeovers.
