How do I increase the width between my deck boards?

The boards on my deck were installed too close together. I have lots of trees and dirt & debris quickly collects in the spaces then the rain water does not drain off. Pressure wash helps but would have to be repeated weekly.

You will have to pull them up and reposition the appropriately. Or you could set your circular saw to the proper depth and run it through to creat a larger opening.

You can use a spacer, remove the boards, then re-install them using a spacer of your desired width. A large nail or a pencil can be used as a spacer. Just remember, the last board you put down will need to be ripped. It will be too wide

depends on what the material the deck is made out of . Depending on how old it is it may be easier to replace the decking

Well, Hal, you want to be mindful of safety issues. But all you need is a jigsaw to cut the spaces a little wider. Vines may gray under your deck and through the boards, but you can eradicate those if you need to. But a deck is going to get dirty, so use outdoor rugs or buy a shop broom and shop vac to help with the upkeep. Best wishes ☺️

Usually deck boards expand in the winter and shrink a little in the summer. Have you had this happen to any of your boards? An air compressor would blow all the debris out.
