I'm sorry but there are so many 'pieces' in the photo that I can't tell which one you're asking about. Perhaps more description would provide you more answers.
No idea which piece you mean
Explain better please
If you are speaking of the cabinet wall on the side of the refrigerator---keep it! It is also part of the above fridge cabinets. Also, the kitchen appliances need separation from the hallway. I have a similar set up but my hall wall is made of drywall and the fridge is on the other side of it.
If it is the panel on the side of the fridge. It can be removed. BUT it's a decorative panel that completes the look of the kitchen cabinets. Removing it would expose the side of the fridge, something more to clean and always the chace of getting dings/scratches. You would also have to deal with the crown molding on top.
The side fridge panel can be removed. I hate those because it keeps the heat from the fridge in and makes it difficult to clean. You will have to move the fridge to tile underneath it. so Remove the side panel even with the top cabinet. Add a decorative molding to the bottom of that cabinet to finish it off.
