How to repair fence topper?

We have a wood framed, vinyl lattice panel fence topper on the brick wall on the brick wall in our back yard. I am noticing that the wood portion, in some places, is beginning to rot. I am wonder it it would be possible to repair it, or will we just need to replace it all?

Looks like you are going to have to replace that wood. I do not think wood filler or bondo would do the job.

    Hi there,

There are three things that can be done:

    1. Scrap all the timber and re-build the frame inserting panels back (be sure to measure the timbers before throwing them! Do one panel at a time. The others

    will be quicker to do.

    2. Replace all timber with UPVC and have a fence with no more maintenance.

    3. Scrap the timber and save the trellis for another project and buy a new fence.

Which either way you decide to go will be great! It's up to you and your pocket.

Thank you! I have been looking at the vinyl toppers, but you are right...they are costly.

The wood will need to be replaced.

The lattice looks to be in good shape. That does not need to be replaced. However, the wood on top should be replaced. It looks very rotted. When you take the wood boards off, keep them to measure their replacements. Wishing you well.

Hi! I agree with William. Take it down, and reframe it or buy framed sections of lattice to add to the top.

The wood in that section , if not the whole thing, will have to be replaced. When you do that you need to carefully inspect all the sections, as well as the fence it tops. Sorry to say that, but I wish you good luck.
