Yes, you can. The existing walls will direct the prep steps. Basically, you take the walls back to studs. Install cement board. Now you are ready to start laying your tile. You will need ready mixed mastik, tile, spacers OR use self spacing tile, grout, caulk, sponge, and some type of tile saw.
