Some kind of tile might be your best bet. They make tiles that look like wood now, I have it in my bathroom and it is very durable. I bought it at Home Depot. Wood or laminate may scratch. Good luck I hope you find what you are looking for.

Ceramic tile or a vinyl floor, even those that are made to look like wood may work for you.

Stone tiles, very durable and no cracks.
Sand won't cause damage to stone or ceramic tile. Sand will likely cause damage/cuts/damage to wood or vinyl flooring over time.
Stone or brick of some sort or ceramic tiles - non shiney!
