How can I keep weeds out of my dormant garden?

We have had too hot of a Sept. here in Tx. and my health kept me from any fall planting. I did get it weeded, the rows in place, but had to quit because of the heat, and now monsoons, and decided to let it rest, and start again in the spring.-We have a greenhouse to get stuff started- should I cover it with weed guard, black plastic, white plastic or what so that what I have done won't be in vain. Thanks again DIY'ers for the help and advice. I don't have the money to spend on any elaborate devices at this time.

I would till the soil then cover with black plastic or cardboard through the winter season. This will kill existing weeds and subdue sprouting seeds.

thanks, much. I thought about that, but it always helps to get someone else's opinion/idea/confirmation. God Bless you in your endeavors.

I agree. I would use black plastic, weighted down. You know how the wind is in these parts lol. Take it easy through the fall and winter, get your health back and hit it again in the spring. Best wishes.
