I’m converting a closet into an office. How do I make the desk?
Here’s the story so far... crap cupboard to office. I’ve made everything in there (cubbies, fence palings on walls etc). For the desk, I would like to use up wood that is 5cm x 1cm and quite bendy. In the photo they are just sitting on two side blocks screwed to the wall. How do I build the frame that 1) holds the wood on the wall; 2) stops them flexing; 3) lines up (on the top and sides). Basically, what are the tips and tricks to making a good looking, flat work surface? Lower cupboard still to be painted and Ikea drawers added.

Attach a couple boards underneath going the opposite direction
The office looks good so far. A piece of glass or plexi would work to cover the desk surface for smooth writing, then add a lamp that does not get too hot and you are on your way.
Hope these help. Or maybe a more substantial top.
I just wanted to pop in and say how gorgeous this is! Can't wait to see the final Ta-Da on Hometalk! Keep up the great work! Hugs, Holly
If you have room for a 2 or 3 drawer file cabinet ( whichever is better for desk height ) put that up against one side of the wall. On the opposite wall put up a piece of wood to use as a brace , making it even with the top of the file cabinet. Cut a piece of plywood to fit in the space, lay it on top of the file cabinet and brace. Paint or stain the wood . You can make a collage of maps , or pictures of interest to you ,
stencil a pattern... You can lay a piece of plexiglass on top or seal it with polyurethane...If you don't have room for the file cabinet , just use 2 braces and lay the wood on them .
