I live in a 60s ranch house. Some of the house has newer floors, but the bedrooms all had carpet covering worn oak or pine floors. They are pretty but I don't want to... See more
Maybe power wash and add plants and country planters. I had great luck with Vintage colanders with low maintenance sedum and succulents
Hi Renee. I'm Cindy. Have you ever given any thought to stencils. You could use a couple different colors and make it look just like flagstone. Very country.
An option would be to add a border with brick to match the brick you have. Maybe plant lower perriennals in front of large bushes and plant a columnar evergreen on the other side with some perriennals or flowering shrubs. I think adding scale and balance with planting seeds and containers would help. Just remember not to close it off so it seems too tight. You may need to increase width of planting bed next to grass to achieve a look you would like. Good luck
Paving stones over the concrete walkway and extend the flower bed on the right for symmetry. That's my 2 cents.
These are all great ideas. How about painted smooth rocks? You could have kids do them or do them yourself. Here are some other ideas.

I love the stencil idea! Go for it!
I would add some Lirope (varegated Monkey Grass) on either side of the walk to keep it low maintenance. I would only power wash the sidewalk when needed. If you stain it one must continue to freshen it up. I would also put a permanent tall grass behind the now potted plant on the right side of the deck in the first picture and possibly smaller round shrubs in front of the deck. Kill the existing weeds w/spray in the gravel and possibly freshen that up w/a little more gravel. If you want it to be a little more cheerful I would forgo the monkey grass on the left side of the walk and do some cheerful fat bunches of yellow day lilies such as Stella D' Oro, Going Bananas or Happy Returns. Another suggestion rather than the day lilies would be the drought tolerant Nandina that is lime green in the Spring and a beautiful Fall color in the winter possibly three for contrast.. Grasses thicken so you might want to widen the bed on the right or place the grass where it would have room to grow and doesn't obstruct the walk. Good luck!
There is nothing wrong with the walkway - you need to spruce up what is surrounding it. I recommend some low growing annual flowers and dark mulch to contrast with the light color of the cement. I find that contrast works really well with almost every design element -- that two items side-by-side should contrast with each other for maximum impact.
Renee, this is what I did to mine and I love it.

Lots of great suggestions that I would only repeat...I would remove that potted palm to the porch in a nice corner or possibly next to your front door if it looks good there...like the bricks lining both sides of the walkway...we did that with larger stones all over our front property to delineate planting areas....and after planting our shrubs, used brown mulch to fill in to hold moisture for the plants...all has held up for over 23 years....just take it one section at a time...we did and every year we tackled another section until it all came together...much work but it is so worth it for visual property values will increase with time...
Maybe boarder it with pretty stones eather white or brick type
Hi, Renee, This is not a difficult one at all, what I'd do: Give your porch, steps and sidewalk a good wash, let them dry, then paint the porch and steps a soft brown or grey (leave the rails white, they look nice.) After that's all done, give your Boxwoods on the left a nice trim and cover the ground around them with mulch or rock.
On the right, put in two or three perennials with a low ground cover between them (sedum is a good choice in any area). After that's all done, put your Fern on the porch and take pictures for us to see how pretty it all is. Whatever you do, it will be special to you!
You can paint it. Concrete paint comes in several different colors. There is also textured paint.
