If it is just a porch roof, shouldn't be bad. If you have never done roofing, I'd hire it out. For such a small job a handy man could do it. You have to remove the old roofing, repair rotted boards, put down tar paper, do flashing, install new shingles.
You definitely will need to learn why your porch roof is leaking & fix the source of the trouble before installing any new roofing. A brand new roof can surely be expensive but repairing just an area of it may be all you need. I'd recommend finding a professional roofing company in your area to come give you an estimate. Ask around & see who your neighbors recommend or you can try HomeAdvisor.com or Angieslist.com
If you DIY this repair, remember that the first row of shingles are laid twice. The first pass is backwards and then proceed as normal with the rest.
Hi! My concern would be how much damage has been done underneath the leak. I would get an estimate from a roofer who guarantees their work unless you are comfortable with heights and ladders. We had a family friend who climbed up to make a repair, fell, and shattered his leg and broke his hip. It's not worth a fall.
