How To Get Rid Of Spiders?
We use a company that comes and sprays inside and out quarterly for seasonal pests. But this year the spiders have been out of control. HUGE spiders. I have had them come out an extra time and it still seems like the spiders are everywhere.
HELP, I can't sleep, please tell me how to keep spiders away while sleeping and deter them from my home for good!

Thought I read/saw in your column "that Borax rids spiders & insects around your house". I did read it but now I can't find where it was. Please reply.
Try peppermint oil in a spray bottle with a little dish soap and water.
I have the same problem. I do not have children or sadly any pets at this time so I purchased insect sticky traps at Walmart. There are four to a box and I put one just inside the door off to the side. They are attracted to the dusk to dawn lights outside. They walk onto the sticky pad and get stuck for good. I get about 5 big ones a night on it. It is pretty disgusting to look at as I walk past but is catching them. I lay mine flat but they are meant to be put up in a triangle shape. I think I like it flat out since I do not have pets to get stuck to it. (The sticky stuff comes off with oil, should you accidentally touch it...I wear a throw away glove just in case to put them down) If you do have pets put them under sinks, of make in rooms that at TOTALLY shut so you pet can't get near them. I have never seen so many spiders as this year. Also helps to sweep as often as you can especially corners and rooms not used often.

Peppermint oil deters spiders. If you see one, squirt it with vinegar. I just pick them up and place outside.
Saturate cotton balls with pure peppermint oil & put in glass containers (votive containers) around the house. Also put some on a cloth & wipe around door ways. That has to be done whenever you stop smelling it. Also look around for an opening around windows etc & do the same. If you have a basement do it there. If you only have a crawl space & recently had work done where there are any openings, cover them. Had that problem when we had plumbing work under bathroom sink & holes never were properly closed. Just be aware: spiders found inside probably have never been outside. They’re from inside & hatched inside. There’s hope. Try not to use toxic things. I’m in the PNW & I’ve seen the biggest spiders I’ve ever seen in my life of living here! Weird! Climate changes? Hmm?
They make plug in pest repellent , my neighbor uses them and say they work great. They emit a high frequency sound , not a chemical. Also , they are not that expensive.

Miss Muffet's Revenge is a good spray to kill them & prevent.
Hi TaKenya - I'm in the same boat as you! I think it's all of the rain here. This is the all-natural and DIY spray that I use in conjunction with a swiffer and it helps to keep the spiders and other insects to a minimum inside. Hope this helps. Hugs, Holly

I know this isn't what you are looking for, but please please don't kill the spiders. If you ignore them and leave them be, they will catch a lot of other insects like moths, mosquitoes, flies. And if you avoid using any chemical insecticides then the ones the spiders eat will not in turn, kill the spiders. You see more spiders in rainy periods, because that is when there are more insects! Cut down on all strong chemicals in your home; your environment will be healthier, and so will you and your family. Chemical cleaners and sprays are killing our earth and our oceans (as they all end up being pumped into the sea) and fish often ends up on our dinner plates, so you end up consuming all those poisons yourself. Clean is fine, but sterile is the worst enemy for your health. Please get over your fear of insects and spiders. We need them. Think about it. Thanks and good luck, Helen
