Get Landscape timbers that are made from treated wood so they won't attract termites or other insects. Any wood that is not treated is fair game for them. Do not plant vegetables within 12 inches of treated wood as they leach chemicals into the soil.
Ants and termites won’t gnaw on treated lumber. However, you can use PVC pipes. They are available in many sizes and if you don’t glue them together you will be able to move or reconfigure them whenever you like. You can even paint them in the color of your choice.
Most landscape timbers are treated to help prevent insect invasion. Also, you can stop ants with corn meal. It kills them. They take it to the nest and it kills the colonies. Keep the planter logs painted to help prevent termites moving in, or use stone or faux stone for the planters. If you use mulch consider using cedar chips or cypress chips as they do not attract termites. Hope this helps, Nana
Hi. Just dig a trench then put a heavy layer of mulch in it. There's no need for a border or hardscape. As the grass grows just keep it out of your trench. Happy gardening!
