Mulch covering weed barrier.
So sorry you are ill. Smother them with newspaper, cardboard or black plastic. Remove in spring, clean up, amend soil, then plant. Hope you recover soon! Drink lots of tea and honey. 🤗
Marion, buy a couple of bags of mulch to cover your garden. Spread it on the top of your rows. Cover with black plastic (comes on a roll) and stake down or put rocks or bricks to keep the plastic in place. When spring come just till it up, replant or seed, fertilize, and wait for your garden to grow. I live in the country and use the Farmers Almanac. Buy one of these and read it. Put it in the bathroom. You will be surprised at what you will learn. Read a page every chance you get and before you know it you can have a beautiful little garden and flowers blooming. It’s really pretty simple. Skip one of your tv shows and watch what a few hours a week will do to your yard and the satisfaction of knowing you did it from scratch! Read your almanac!
You could lay cardboard on your beds. This will smother the weeds. Put some big rocks on top to hold it in place all winter.
I have been looking for an answer to this for decades and even trying all the other suggestions those buggers keep coming back. Living in the country birds drop seeds, squirrels and chipmunks bury acorns and the wind takes care of the rest. I too was quite ill for several years with a serious head injury and the easiest thing I could find to get rid of the weeds was a propane weed burner. First I thoroughly watered the flowerbeds AGAIN thoroughly water the beds and while still wet hit the tops of the weeds with the flame of the torch and they would just wither and die. Not strenuous at all and it kept the weeds at bay. I got mine here https://m.northerntool.com/shop/tools/category_snow-ice-removal+torch-kits. Good luck and feel better!
