How do we take care of plants when on vacation?
We’re heading to warmer climate for four months and I have to leave my house plants behind. Some are 5 feet tall. Any ideas on how to keep them alive??

4 months is way too long time to be without water. To keep them alive, either hire someone to water them or give them to a Good Home
Excellent! Hope you are going someplace pleasant and warm. Parse out to friends and family while you are away. Or hire a house or plant sitter. The bathtub trick won't work for 4 months. Or just give away? Back when I was in my early 20's, my moonlighting job (current term is side hussle), was a house and pet sitter. Most of my clients wanted me to stay at their house, which I happily did as I lived in a 1 bedroom apartment with no a.c.. Everyone had a.c., color tv (I didn't own a color tv until my late 20's), sometimes a pool or Jacuzzi or both. Heaven in my world. I worked my day job and just came home at night to their house instead of mine. Took in their mail and newspapers, took care of any pets, and enjoyed myself. I never entertained at a client's home as 1. Not appropriate 2. Only my immediate family knew where I was. Back in those days I let the client set the price as actually they were doing me a favor. I built up quite a clientele just by being honest and not turning their homes into party central. At one time I entertained the thought of giving up my apartment as I was paying rent just to store my stuff. So you need to find a retired person that could use the extra cash, or a trusted neighbor, a super responsible high school or college student still living at home.
Let one of your friends or family care for them while you're gone.
Try one of these for your houseplants and potted plants: https://amzn.to/2Qfv8KM
There are drip irrigation systems that will keep indoor plants watered for up to 4 months. I saw then online, but didn't really investigate the effectiveness. Try Amazon.
