Jun 28, 2018 - Make fruit fly traps. Make a vinegar trap. In a bowl or cup, place a small amount of vinegar at the bottom. Make a banana trap. Make a soap trap. Try a carnivorous plant. Take care of damp cloths. Don't keep ripe fruit out on the counter. Keep up on the dishes. Clean out the drain.Colleen, I hope this popular video helps you.

Hi Peggy, I used to manage a bar and we would get them from the draft beer going down the drain. The only thing I found that really works is Hot Shot No Pest Strips. They have them at walmart and Lowes. Here is a link to check them out.

use a small plastic container (like a margarine tub), two teaspoons of sugar, half fill with warm water (to dissolve sugar), then a few drops of dishwashing liquid (like Dawn - any brand will do). Sit it on counter and watch 'em die!
I use a vinegar trap, lol. In a really small bowl I add vinegar and several drops of dawn ( apple blossom scent) I have found this scent to work exceptionally well.
The reason for the dish liquid is to coat their wings so that they cannot crawl out. That’s what I was told . You can use any dish liquid. I hope this helps you.
I take an empty plastic water bottle and push a banana peel down into it. I then make a funnel out or a sheet of scrap paper and insert it into the top of the bottle and set the bottle where the fruit flies are. They go in but can't get out so they die. Best way I have ever tried. Gets rid of them completely. After a week or so put the cap back on the bottle and toss it in the trash with banana peel and fruit flies sealed inside. No smell either.
Fill a microwave-safe bowl with apple cider vinegar and a few drops of dish soap. Microwave the bowl so the mixture becomes even more aromatic. Leave the bowl out uncovered as fruit fly bait. The soap will reduce the surface tension, causing any fruit fly that lands on the surface to drown. Now, if what you have might be drain flies...if that is what you have try this: Boil some water on the stove and pour down your drain several times a day for about a week or Mix 1/2 cup salt, 1/2 cup baking soda and 1 cup of vinegar and then pour the mixture down the drain, leaving it overnight. In the morning, pour boiling hot water down the drain.
If a drain fly infestation lasts longer than 20 days despite different approaches to get rid of them, then it’s time to call a professional exterminator.
