Yes makes a difference what kind of rodents(rats, mice, gophers, ground hogs, moles etc.) and I think I'd leave the lizards they eat many unwanted bugs like cockroaches, crickets, spiders & lots more

Don't be fooled by the cute little geckos. They are worse than mice. If they get inside anywhere they will ruin your walls, furniture & more. Their droppings look like a mouse's except have a white tip. It stains and cannot be removed. You have to repaint walls. They have costs us hundreds of dollars.

Lizards are attracted to rodents. Rodents are attracted to food sources: bird seed, dog, cat food, etc. If your neighbor feeds birds, the spilled seed will attract rodents.

Moles are attracted to grubs and earthworms in your lawn.

Voles are attracted to various seeds, including weed seeds in your yard.

Try garlic sprays, crushed mothballs (assuming you have no pets who might ingest them), crushed, cleaned eggshells over your yard.

Don't cut corners in not cleaning the eggshells. If you fail to clean out all the albumin, you'll attract mice.
