You may be able to purchase a lock with a longer, more secure latching mechanism, but you may be restricted by the sliding door gap and the fact that pocket doors rarely fit tightly, into the framing area.
Changing any lock to a thumb latch style or lever permits the potential for damage when the door is slid opened by inexperienced persons...
You can purchase pocket door locks. I really wouldn't make the pocket door an entry door.

I agree with William. You can lock but it will not be very secure, nor will it be able to be weather secure either.
