What is chalk made of?
I'd like to know what is chalk made of? There's a lot of talk on this site about using chalk paint, some really beautiful ideas. Before I go ahead and try any of them I'd like to know that it's a safe material, since I only like to use the most natural and environment-friendly substances in my home. So before I use chalk paint, I'd like to know what is chalk paint?

Chalk paint made with Chalk Line powder
Curious if anyone has used Chalk Line powder when making a DIY version "Chalk Paint"? It has calcium carbonate/lime in it. Is there a reason not to use this?
"Chalk" is Limestone. Unfortunately not all paint is created equal. My favorite and the one I trust with my health is Wise Owl-its the only one I would put my name on and retail as the owner and creator is a scientist and absolutely loves the earth. She won't create anything that compromises our health or the earths. Some painted even contain crystalline silicates that cause lung cancer when inhaled (like when we distress and sand!) Home made "chalk style paint" is really bad for us as well when we inhale it. 😢 Not that we mean to but its naturally going to happen with the work we do.
