That's up to you. You can recover with fabric or pretty paper.
Tammy, what a great idea. Since you have the jewlrey you know the size of the compartments you need. Anything from covering with material or your choice of items and make divisions with more cardboard or even thin light wood will work.
I hope you share what you’ve decided to do.
To be honest Tammy, you can get an unfinished wooden treasure chest made by a carpenter for less than the $15 that you intend to spend on Fabric. If I were you I would make pillows out of the fabric and Sleep on thd idea.
I would cut a circle in the corner of three shoe boxes to fit in a felt fabric covered kitchen roll. Then add felt inside the boxes. Stick into the corner a cap from a deodarant , you can cover this on the outside with the felt. Stick into the box that hasn't got holes, line up with the holes, add tube through the holes and put into the cap. Add the final box. Add a lid. To open swing each box to the side. I haven't made this but I do turn lots of items into new purposes.
