Just know if you go to sell your home, it might be a hit to your bottom line. Where I live it gets really hot in summer and people want and need their garages. Same goes if it snows where you live, people might not like having to shovel out their car out every day. If these items are not a concern, go for it! Who doesn't want more living space. 🌞

Naomi is right on. By the time you do the conversion, get the permits, etc. It might not be that much more to do a well thought out addition. Plus it saves the garage.

Where is the nearest sewer stack to the garage? Is there presently water access in the garage? The cost of constructing a bathroom that meets legal code requirements could easily cost tens of thousands alone.

Also check with your home insurance carrier. If you convert a former garage into 'living space', your premiums will definitely increase.

The ladies are right! Be sure you get all the facts before you start making decisions. It is really easy to get excited about a renovation only to find out is isn't allowed or isn't cost effective.
