My best advice is to look for neighbors with a similar situation and see what is growing well in their yards. If it works for them, it will likely work for you.
Don't know where you live so need to plant according to area but here's ideas https://www.wildflower.org/collections/collection.php?collection=nwpl MORE https://amongthestatelytrees.wordpress.com/2013/04/16/the-top-75-wetland-plants/ https://www.aquascapesunlimited.com/Native-Wetland-Plants MORE https://www.environment.nsw.gov.au/topics/water/wetlands/plants-and-animals-in-wetlands/plants This will be beautiful when done, maintenance free & animals, birds, amphibians, fish alike will benefit as well as you from all that you'll get to see. Put some stepping stones down thru the area for paths it'll be fantastic. When you invite the creatures they'll also help in bug control of mosquitos etc. from the wet grass you previously had.
Hello,
As to your landscaping suggestions I would suggest a personal consultation with your specific planting zone and moist soil in mind. Do you want color and blossoms or foliage? Do you want to encourage bee activity ( some of my family members are terrified of bees)
Without knowing your planting zone- it’s difficult to say.
For your landscaping suggestions I would highly suggest contacting your cooperative extension for a free consultation . These offices are manned by volunteer master gardeners on site there waiting to answer the communities questions that know your local situation quite well.
Master gardeners are required to volunteer back designated hours ( plus continuing education) each year to maintain MG certification -this community outreach and education is their goal.
