Berber is a style. Do you know if it is an olefin or nylon carpet. Olifin is a very builder grade type of plastic carpet usually always made in a Berber style. It cleans differently than nylon. Once the fibers break down they actually hold the dirt. The best way to try to clean is to rent a cleaner. If it is olifin you can also try a water bleach mixture to spot clean, if nylon it will immediately take all color or discolor your carpet. Good luck

I purchased a Hoover rug cleaner 15-20 years ago and it is still going strong. The first thing you want to do is clean AS SOON as you can after the stain is made. The cleaner you see at the home shows where the guy dips the broom in and washes a filthy dirty carpet are no joke. They do NOT contain fats in the soap that stick to the fibers and actually attract more dirt. It is mostly the cleaner you use. If you rent a cleaner you will pay for ONE use. They are not that expensive to buy and you will have it for MANY years to come. Every spill, every holiday, every dirty footprint can be removed any time you want.

The cleaner DOES make a huge difference. Having pets for well over 40 years I have tried every cleaner on the market. The powdered mix from the shows does in fact work better than any other cleaner I have used. It removed blood and grease that non of the others touched. I had a cat that had surgery and blood was from one end of the house to the other on every type of carpeting. Came out like it was chalk. There was a mechanic in my house as well. Grease boot mark on a peach carpet. Rub across with a fingernail after the soap was on it ....removed it like it was mud.

Berber carpet comes in many different styles, either in Nylon or Olefin(lower cost). The main difference in Berber carpet compared to others is it is made different it is much more tightly woven with alternating high & low loops. Being so tightly woven it's harder to remove stains if they have penetrated down into tightly woven fibers. https://www.doityourself.com/stry/how-to-clean-pet-stains-on-berber-carpet Some machines should not be used on Berber carpets.
