How can I protect my canna lily plants from whatever is eating them?
Something is eating the leaves of my cannas. Had canna in my yard NEVER had a problem. Looks like they start at the new leaves
Liquid Fence has been my best defense. It does not work on rabbits like it professes but it has on deer. I hit them good the first time and then reapply monthly after that. Spray them before snow gets on them. If you find it’s too late in the season and not absorbing into the bushes then cover bushes in burlap.
Hi ! I bought a home a couple of years ago , apparently the previous owner knew what to plant , probably by trial and error ! We have had our new plants/ shrubs eaten by deer, it was getting expensive ! We looked at what other people had in our neighborhood, to see what would get left alone. This doesn't always work , because some plants have varieties that look the same , but obviously aren't, such as holly , we had a well established one on the side of the house, we planted one that looked exactly the same in the back yard , all the leaves were gone the next morning !!!
things that I found to work... Liquid fence , works pretty well it's a spray...Also I heard from a lot of people and posts that Irish spring soap works great , I put that out this past weekend, I will see how well it works, we only to go the house every other weekend.... I also hear that deer will eat anything if they are really hungry😕
prickly holly, blackthorn, they don't seem to like my firebushes.
Wrap your plants in a chicken wire so they cannot get to them. Some wrap their plants in burlap, which might be easier to do. This also helps to keep the sun from burning the branches and drying out the bushes and turning them brown..
The only thing I can think of is Grated Carbolic Soap............
My grandfather use to an aluminium pit tin hung between two stakes. The shimmer and sound of it helped keep animals away. How true it worked, I'm not sure. But he did this for years!
