How do I care for Butterfly bushes?
How do you cut back a miniature butterfly bush and when is the best time of year to do this ?It's December and we have not done anything to it since has turned brown from the frost and cold weather.Amy,Nineveh, Indiana 46164

It is doing well in the summer heat but I am not sure how well it will survive the 30 deg. winter.
We cut our butterfly bushes in the late fall (usually sometime in November). We chop them down to about a foot tall.
Never "whack and chop" any of my bushes. They do not need to be pruned.

Turning brown is normal, they are in their dormant state.
