Take a sample of grass and dirt to county extension office and they can point you in the right direction as to what your lawn needs to be healthy.

There are many products to fertilize by also to thatch it and allow aeration.

My husband is definitely a firm believer in doing all it takes to make your lawn as healthy and beautiful as possible. Weeding, scarifying, adding nutrients, watering and more! Today it is 50 and he is going to go outside and work on the yard. He says it takes a lot of time and patience but it is all worth it!
