How do I build a deck from pallet wood?
My husband has access to several sturdy 4’ X 4’ pallets. I would like to use some of them to build a “patchwork” deck, with each pallet perpendicular to the next one. What should I use to protect the untreated lumber from the weather, and how do make the boards smooth enough to walk on with bare feet?

To get them smooth you need to sand them.
Hi Ann, perhaps this post will help. It seems to address both your painting and your sanding questions. https://www.hunker.com/13424706/how-to-make-a-deck-with-wood-pallets Sounds like a neat project!
Hello Ann,
First Weed and level the site, then lay weed suppressant membrane. Then start constructing your Deck with the Pallets. Be sure to screw them together or they may move a bit.
First step would be to undo all those pallets and sort what's useful. My favorite stain for outdoors would be ready seal - so easy to use and the finish is awesome. I used it on this deck for a Tiny House.
