Hi Stella, Ikea has some brilliant and cheap solutions that would fit inside your kitchen cabinet and pull out. Just search for ‘waste’ on their website. They also have stackable bins that are great for the garage etc. When your in the US the company Rev a shelf have also good solutions.
Hi ! First you need to find out how your town recycles . Some areas have you separate glass , plastic & paper, some towns let you mix it . So once you find out , you will know if you need 3 bins or not . If you do , find a good place , in the garage , utility room...where ever you have room. MARK each bin, for its contents. Make sure all bottle , jars of any food containers are rinsed out before putting I the bin !!!! This is important, it will keep it from getting smelly and attracting bugs or pests.
I recycle everything I can, so I wish I'd told the builder not to install a trash compactor. We never used it, so I turned it into a recycle stop. I take newspapers and paper to a nearby school, so the only thing I put in the compactor is plastic. I keep a bag with handles in it, and when it gets full, I move everything to the outside recycle bin, which is picked up once a week.
It's convenient to have it right there in the kitchen, instead of having to run outside every time I empty something plastic.
Before you give it all away; check for recycle places that take aluminum cans, foil, etc. It's not a lot but it may be worth your while if you use a lot of foil or sodas. Not too sure about food cans though. Some plastic bottles can be crafted into other things. Ever do paper mache with news papers?
Otherwise talk to city and see if they do curbside or you take it to a collection center where it would be easier if separated.
Pamela gave good advice. Some places have mixed stream recycles, like where I live. I keep a basket by the back door, and a tall garbage can on the back porch to empty it into. We're allowed to put the items out in open top containers, so I pop the garbage can lid off before putting it. The basket is from the dollar store, and the garbage can is an inexpensive one from Walmart.
