How do I make an easy canopy to cover the driveway?

There is a dirt bed on one side of the driveway and asphalt on the other. We cannot disturb the asphalt because we rent.

On the asphalt side, join each support at the bottom with a long piece of metal (similar to this photo) or board then weight it down with sandbags.

There a commercial canopies available. The other suggestion would be a wooden frame covered by tarps, but it may be damaged by wind, rain, or snow.

Without being able to adhere both sides the wind would rip up. Can you get permission to put anchors in the asphalt?

These are good responses above. There is not really an “easy” solution given your parameters.

You might be able to "anchor" the canopy supports on the asphalt sides by placing cinder blocks spaced so the supports will fit into them, then add cardboard to the bottom of each cinder block, pour in Sakrete and place the canopy supports into the newly poured concrete that is now in the cinder blocks.

Or purchase the heavy-duty weight bases for umbrella holders and place the canopy supports into the holders normally used for the umbrella. Likely more expensive idea than the cinder blocks but maybe less labor intensive.
