I have never tried to grow a plant from an avocado seed , but I remember my mother did ! I remember seeing the glass she had it in , sitting on the counter near the window. This what she did . She took the seed and stuck 3 toothpick around the seed then set it on drinking glass ( not the tall kind ) using the toothpicks to rest on the glass, that left the seed suspended, half in , half out of the glass. Then she filled the glass with water. I am sure she added water as time went by, when level got low . After a while the seed started to root , then quite a bit later it started to sprout out of the top . When the plant got to be a few inches , maybe between 5-7 , she transplanted it , into a planter with soil , covering the whole seed at this point .
