Plywood cut round and piano henged in the middle. Place 2 inch boards on the bottom snug against glass to hold it in place . The top won't have to be much bigger. You will have to look up the exact size. Cover with cloth and no one will know.
If you don't want to cover it, could you somehow add wood to the middle? I think the contrast of wood to glass would look really nice.
I'm afraid your base will be too small. The top needs to be at least 12 to 14 feet long. You figure a min of 2Ft per person plus 18" for the ends if seating there too. How big is the space? You want at least 3Ft clearance around table. Since 8' is the common size of plywood you'll have to make the top with 2 sheets or with wood planks. Your existing base will be too small to hold it and not tip the top.
