This is the top that I want to add mosaic sea glass
How do redo this oak coffee table?
I have an old oak coffee table that’s in good shape and it’s the right size for our space, but I had wanted to antique/weather the bottom shelf and legs and do a sea glass mosaic top, but how can I get the top smooth once it’s done?

It's just a piece of glass on a bamboo table. I'm tired of cleaning the glass.
Home Depot sells paints that will give a weathered wood look, but first you have to use a paint remover to get off all the old stuff. Then neutralize it and you are good to go. Remember to wear rubber gloves and goggles when using the remover!
Jan thank you, is there a certain brand that you recommend
A sea glass mosaic will be beautiful but never smooth. Could you have a clear glass top cut to fit over it? it would easier to wipe clean and still let your mosaic art show.
Either, buy a sheet of plate glass (it's toughened, breaking down an old window won't do as the glass is unsuitable) to cover the mosaic OR, build a small frame - easiest way would be to use a strong masking tape but a wood frame can be finished off with a router/sander - and pour on a clear resin, enough to 'just' clear the top of every piece of tile (plenty of 'how to' guides out there showing table tops with a resin insert)
Everyone here is right about the sealant. I too vote for glass once the work is done. This site might help. When you see something you like, click on the image and you are golden. Please share with us when you are done??
I would see a glass shop and have a glass cut to fit over the top if it were mine. I do not think you can get a smooth top with sea glass mosaic. I could be wrong, but that is my experience. Hope it turns out well! SHare a photo when you get done? Happy New Year.
