I have a small semi walk in closet . I am working on designing a system , right now I have a shelf unit in it . I like shelves , because they hold so much more than a dresser ! I am only living there part time now , but expect to move in fully , in the next few months . My goal is to do away with my dresser , altogether, to have more space in my bedroom. I am looking at two ways , first , standards with wire shelves , then I was also looking at a wire cube system , that you can configure in different ways. Then buying some baskets for , panties , socks , bras . I will also but a hanging bar To double my hanging space. Also get specialty hangers for certain items to save space . I also want to add another shelf above my top shelf, it seems like wasted space, and use that area to put both out of season items or rarely used things . I have a limited budget , I would love some of the systems I see , but my closet isn't large enough , nor do I have the money. Good luck !!!
Hi Cas, vertical storage in a closet is probably the best way to utilize the space. Hang two rods, one at 60 inches and one at 30 inches - that way you will be doubling your hanging storage space. If you have a need to hang dresses you can fold them over a hanger to fit the space or just leave the bottom rod a few inches shorter than the top rod so you still have space for dresses. A shallow shelf for above the top rod is a great place for utilizing long term storage in bins or boxes.
I have quite a bit of hanging space in my home and I utilized it by adding shower curtain hangers to hang all my pants from. I also purchased a tie hanger for all of my camis and tank tops (for real one hanger stores ALL FORTY my camis and tank tops) and it only takes up the space of two hanging sweaters lol.
If its not clothes you have a need to store though closets are a great place to put desks, file cabinets even dressers to free up more space in the room.

Many people waste a great deal of closet space by hanging each piece of clothing on a separate hanger. Purchasing heavy duty hangers with or without clips can significanyly reduce wasted soace. Multiple pairs of slacks can be hung on the same hanger. Place 2 skirts back to back and clip in place. One hanger can hold many scarves, belts, etc. Suit jackets and skirts or their matching slacks can be hung together. Vests and blouses, etc.
Use vertical space for shoes, boots, hats. Buy see thru or fabric bins with labels for bins for gloves, sweaters (which should never be hung), hosiery, baseball caps, scarves, purses, etc. Woolens should be kept in moth proof drawers or similar.
Place bed linens on shelves or in bins on the floor area.
Hello, hope this helps you out.
