Gina, I’m actually doing this right now.
I am collaging the top of the desk. I am choosing photos, and I haven’t decided if I’m just going to lay them on and place plexiglass over top or if I’m going to glue them down. By not gluing them I have the option to change out the photos. To glue them down I would arrange them first before putting them down to make sure I like it. And then I would adhere them with a little bit of modge podge because it dries clear. Then pour the glue into to let it seal and dry.
Please share your project so we can enjoy it too!

I collaged comics onto a chair for my son using modpodge several years ago and it’s still holding up strong! You can do the same with a table. Here’s my post about it if you’d like to see my process https://www.justalittlecreativity.com/2012/07/kapow-comic-book-chair-makeover-comics.html
