Ah, tis the season to get organized. Consider using under-the-drawer glides and attaching a board. Secure the glides to your shelf and use to pull out the board for easy access to items hidden in the back. Go to the Dollar Store and get clear plastic bins for everything from cereal to crackers; no need to label, what's inside can be seen. Attach a chalkboard to the inside of the door. When you run out of something, write it down. Good luck!

If you mean a pantry, stack canned goods on a middle shelf.

Place vegetables on one shelf, baking items (pie fillings, pudding mixes, canned milks, vanilla, baking spices, etc. ) to one side or on a separate shelf, jams, jellies, peanut butter together. Condiments together.

    Place cereals on top shelves.

Heavy bake/cookware on a lower shelf.

All beverages together, separated by type, and cans stacked, if shelf space permits.

Grains, flours, sugars in airtight containers and clearly marked, on one shelf.

Snacks should be placed together, on a lower shelf, in airtight containers.

Obviously, all labels should face out, to facilitate rapidly locating items.

Avoid placing too many items in front of each other, unless they are exactly the same. Purchased staggered shelves of coated wire, heavy duty plastic, or wood to elevate spices, as needed.

Gloria, for my pantry I always group like items. On my canned food shelf I put all tomato products together, all bean items together, fruit and then vegetables. Dry goods I try to store in sealed containers and label them. If it's a mix with instructions, I cut that off the box and place inside the sealed container or tape on the outside. I've found that putting like items in a row from front to back is more efficient than side by side.

To organize my pantry, I use the others suggestions above but you know things get hidden or lost as well causing overbuying.

To add to the list of suggestions, keep a list of items you have and cross off when gone or move the item to the shopping list.

To do this, use a white board, simple paper inside the cabinet or your phone.

On my spice jars I have them on a step shelf to add more space. Since I can’t see what’s inside behind the other, I label the tops, on the side of the lids so I can see them behind each other.

    Good luck with the organization!
