cost -- because it lasts (virtually) forever!! a two part epoxy resin is what I have on my kitchen counters ... has been there for YEARS ... not hard to do ... just follow directions on the product, you'll need to put a 'bumper' to keep the resin from running over the edge ... you can use a decorative strip sold in home improvement centers .... only thing you need to watch is putting 'hot' pots/pans directly on the surface, or cutting directly on the surface.
