How can I fix up chipped and unglued laminate countertops?
My parent’s beach house has these horrible laminate countertops that were starting to peel off. There are now several places where the laminate has chipped off and you can tell the rest isn’t far behind. What can I do if I remove the laminate and just have the base under it? Can that be painted like granite, or will the texture be all wrong?

I would cover them. Home improvement stores sell thin (like quarter inch thick) various quartz or granite tops that install right over the existing counters. They look great and are very inexpensive compared to full blown granite or quartz counters. They will cut them to fit your counters. Also, there is beautiful laminate you can put over counters too. Perhaps that would be more to your liking for the beach house. Hope you can find one you like, Barbara.
Use a hot air gun to melt the old glue and remove the chipped laminate....scrape off all old glue, you may need to clean with a solvent....the base surface will need to be primed before you add several coats of paint or product to finish...the probably two coats of good waterproof sealer.
The base surface will also be good to tile or you could use wood veneer
Hope it turns out really well
Barbara depending on what’s under it you can repaint or faux whatever it.
Its probably just had the glue let go. It’s a big project. You might be better off regluing it until
you decide to replace it. I tried this in
a trailer and made a mess but I see others make it beautiful.
