How do you paint over chalk paint?
Several years back I redid my kitchen cabinets with Anne Sloane chalk paint and I like it very much. But now it is showing wear around some of the handles I have already touched up several times. Is there a finish I can put on it now—over the wax? Or do I need to just keep on waxing. Or is there a way to redo the cabinets with a stronger finish

I think this can help you: https://missmustardseed.com/can-you-repaint-over-wax/
Use Mineral spirits to remove the wax, I use an old t shirt...keep using the mineral spirits until the wax is gone. Rinse and dry. Repaint the cabinets with chalk paint..or use primer and regular paint. If you use Chalk Paint seal it with polyacrylic. You do not have to use wax over chalk paint. If you like the distressed look or flat antique look, you can use Matte Polycrylic.
I have found that poly works better over chalk paint, specially if its on things hard used. Its is hardier if at least three coats are used.

You will need to remove the old wax with mineral spirits before you put any other paint or sealer over the surface. The wax will repel everything else if you do not remove it. The only thing that they say you can paint over the wax is more AS chalk paint.
I've had lots of luck repainting waxed surfaces. I would recommend repaint with Annie Sloan and sealing with General Finishes high performance topcoat poly. It easer to get a smother finish with the poly. What color of Annie Sloan are your cabinets?
