Hello Eunice. The most important thing about growing tomatoes in a pot is drainage. If possible, drill 4 or 5 holes in the bottom of the pot. If you can't drill holes, put 3 or 4 inches of rocks in the bottom of the pot. Cover them with a few layers of newspaper. Then put your soil in the pot and then the plant. At least this way, the roots will not be sitting in water if it rains or over watered.
FYI: Correct spelling for this is PEAT not "pete" [like peat-moss used in gardening].
