It's not about the paint, it is the prep. Your paint is coming off because it is not adhering to your piece. You need to completely sand the paint and primer off of your piece. Then use liquid sandpaper to make your surface tacky and use a bonding primer. You can then use any type of paint and it should not scratch off.
Do great prep work and then seal your piece with poly.
The shinier the surface the more prep needs done before painting.
I totally agree with the other answers. It's all in the prep work before painting.
If your piece is super shiny and smooth (laminate, formica, plastic..) then you have to scuff sand and use a bonding primer (KILZ, BIN Shellac based primer) to get the paint to stick. Then it's best to go over the paint with waterbased poly (I really like varathane) to seal the paint.
Hi Judy! Chalk Mineral Paint is very durable and won't scratch off. It's also important to properly clean your piece before painting so there is better adhesion.
I can tell you how to paint with Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint :)
It is super easy to paint with Dixie Belle.
Step one: Clean with White Lightning
Step two (optional): If the surface is slippery, apply two coats of Slick Stick
Step three: Paint one to two coats of Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint
Step four (optional): Use any of our clear coats or waxes for extra protection or a different style finish
