I have a bathroom that needs some love. I just do not have the decorating vision. We are kind of rustic farmhouse I guess. Any thoughts?

I would add some pretty rustic farmhouse signs. There are some with really cute/funny sayings for the bath. You could also add some hanging mason jars with flowers for some color.

I love your finishes and tiles! My only suggestion would be to add some color in your accessories, so pick your favorite color and add hand towels and maybe some wall hangings.

Get Wood Towel Racks, Toilet paper holders and hooks. Those will brighten it suprisingly and provide some contrast

If you are farmhouse rustic types. Then you have the wrong style mirror. You need a chunky natural light wood, just like the planks in your photos. Adding shelves with the same planks between the wall and basin utility would give you storage, and adding baskets would look good too.

Above the toilet should be either some art work or signs.

I would add turquoise In the form of accessories to bring some colour, i.e towels, art, a bath mat.

I think a group of small mirrors above the bath would reflect some light and give a vocal point. There should also be a blind at the window, white with a turquoise pattern would look nice.

What about the boards that are in the photo? Perhaps use them to make some cool shelving, they appear to match your décor thoughts.

You have a lovely base upon which you can build your design and even change it on a whim... with the seasons or holidays, etc. ... if you are into that! Your design, so far, is very clean, contemporary and neutral and it should be relatively easy to add to it. I love the classiness of your tiles, juxtaposed with the casualness of the bronze finishes. And the mirror combines those two "feelings" together. Great job!

Now to get down to the nitty-gritty. I would start by adding a relatively large piece of colorful artwork on the empty wall to the right of the window in the tub area. I might get something that incorporates some reds, some turquoise, and some greens... maybe a floral/landscape of some kind. Perhaps a country barn setting even, as long as it is a colorful picture. Think colorful! Definitely get something that speaks to your heart and makes you feel happy. Artwork is a very personal choice so it would be difficult for me to dictate further than that without knowing you. Now, pick whichever color is most prominent in that picture for a couple of solid color bath towels to hang on the towel rod in the tub area. Next, I might go with a more casual "matchstick" blind for an inset window blind. Don't hang it on the outside of the window because it would obscure your beautiful trim work. Pick this blind color to match the more rustic pine boards that you have standing against the toilet wall in pic #2. I really like the color combo you have going on right there. It works.

I will post the other half of this message when I see that this part has successfully gone through. I am having some problems with this particular site today.

Shari has great ideas! I agree with her about not covering-up the lovely trim work around the window.

For any artwork, I would suggest pieces that are not too "busy". You want to evoke a sense-of-calm, since it's one of the busiest rooms in the home. I hope you'll share some "after" photos for all of us to see :-)

    Happy shopping.

Finally got this site to cooperate so I will try (again) to send this on to you!

For the wall above the toilet, choose some rustic pine shelves (like the pine boards you have standing there) to coordinate with the new "matchstick" blind over the tub. Get three shelves (design looks better in odd numbers) and center them on that wall. On these shelves, add a few square baskets, all the same color, to contain all of those extraneous bathroom necessities that usually sit out on the counter and make a bathroom look messy when exposed. Once again, think colorful for these baskets or else spray paint them. Add some small chalkboard “tags” from the baskets to label them, if you want. You can roll up a few colored towels/hand towels/washcloths, whatever you might use, and stack them on the shelves too. These should be in the colors from the bathtub picture so they coordinate with it. The eye is naturally drawn to color so the idea is to get your eyes to move around the room. Additionally on the shelves, I would add a few fun farmhouse containers (or even some mason jars) in different sizes with candles or bath salts inside. Sandra has the right idea. By that, I mean add some color but definitely keep it simple so as to not overdo the "stuff". Finally, stand up a small farmhouse-type sign with a cute saying on it on top of one of the shelves, if room allows. Conversely, you can add a farmhouse sign or artwork to the wall above the toilet paper roll but keep it rather small. Remember: If you add something that has any writing on it (ie: a sign) to that particular wall, it will be seen as you are looking in the mirror and the reverse-reflection might be disturbing. Just a thought.

Hope this helps you. If you have any questions, email me (Shari) at ryaninteriors@gmail.com. Good luck and happy shopping!

Kirklands, Home Goods, At Home and Hobby Lobby have lots of signs and prints to put up on the walls. Or you can put some shelving on the wall by the potty. Then display what you like on the shelves.
