What material can I use in the bottom of the containers?
I have a few new very large containers for annual flowers and azaleas. What material can I use in the bottom of the containers (other than pebbles) for better drainage?
A cut up poole noodle. Great for drainage and makes the pot lighter too.
Your welcome. I like to keep mine light to move them around or into the garage if it gets too cold. Although the peanuts work i prefer the pool noodles because they dont seem to pack down as much. I get mine at dollar store or wait until the end of the season when they are on sale and stock up
Fill your container with styrofoam blocks or peanut, then your soil. This way you are recycling and the containers will be easier to move.
Thank you so much, what a great idea!

You can use other things as well. I've used scrap wood, but recycling would work as well, like crumpled plastic bottles and cans.
