What is a good paint?

It depends what material it is made of. If it's wood then make sure you sand and clean it properly and then an all purpose latex paint or chalk paint should work.

HI Millie. I am not sure if you are painting the frame or fabric but either can be painted with chalk or milk paint. Both are non-latex paints and will adhere well to fabric or wood. If you are painting the fabric, you will want to keep it moist with a spray bottle and water and thin down whichever paint you use. Also, sand between layers to get a nice smooth look. no matter what it is made of(wood-metal)"the shinier the finish the more prep" meaning either stripping or sanding.Prime it then paint it. If you use oil base paint no sealing needed,chalk paint needs sealing, latex needs sealed only if you want it thoroughly water proofed & since piece is textured(how much ?) may need to use longer napped rollers instead of paint brushes.
