What can I do with this table?
I cannot part with this table because it reminds me so much of my grandma, but I have no clue what to do with it, it just collects junk?
Half of the top lifts up!

If you keep it there, it must be very durable with drinks and smokes.

Its hard to tell the size, but it appears the size of an end table perhaps? Does it have a built in magazine holder on just the one side? I'd look around the house to see what piece it might replace; perhaps a night stand? Are you using it now as an end table to your couch/chair? I think any horizontal surface will collect junk, that's the nature of the beast! It takes some discipline to put things away. But that said, its nice if one does have a side table to be able to place a cup of coffee or the tv remote etc. I know many people hate the idea of painting wood furniture, and I agree to some extent. If its a really nice quality piece you do hate to cover it with paint. But maybe it would fit perfectly somewhere if it were a lighter color, or color to blend in with a bedroom etc? If you'd use it and enjoy it being a different color, then I say paint it and enjoy the memories of your Grandma! RIght now, the piece sounds more of a pain in the neck until you find a way to use it! Not always easy to do!
A coat of chalk paint and a vintage stencil would be great for this end table ! Use sealing wax in clear or antique ! Have fun !
I think it would look great if you lightly sanded it and gave it a fresh coat of paint.... use your favorite color. If you work on the table and turn it into something you love, that might be the motivation you need to stop piling stuff on it.
What did grandma use it for? If it was hers I think I would give it a throwback to her, in her favourite color, stencil a quote she always said something to that effect. It woukd then become a great conversation piece in any room.
I agree with Holly, sand it, paint it a delightful soft color. . . green, blue, yellow, etc. It would look great outdoors, on a porch in a bedroom or any room in your house. The first picture does not really show the shape, but paint it.
