There's a pre-mixed formula that works great for succulents - look for "cactus and succulent" mix.

Holes in the planters so water will drain out. Gravel in the bottom. Mix gravel in the potting soil.
The best seed starters I've used (and they really, really work!) are used K-Cups from the coffee machines. The individual cups are perfect for starting 1-2 seeds and they are good until the seedlings are about 2-4 inches tall. Simply cut the bottoms off and plant the cup into the ground when the ground is warm enough.
The nutrients from the coffee grounds are the perfect seed starting medium.
succulent mix is great, plus you can use this seed starter method that is biodegradable when planted - https://youtu.be/71tdiaRiuf0
