I use dollar store baskets and bins.
Before you organize, buy a couple of shelf/riser units to place on your shelves to double your shelf space.
I’ve been there before. Usually, buying larger sizes is more economical, if you can use up and replace an item within 1-3 months for most items. If you can’t do that, go ahead and pay more money per ounce for smaller containers. We don’t cook with salt anymore, but I buy a large container of black pepper. I buy two smaller bottles of other mixed herbs, like lemon pepper and garlic and onion we use one of these on every dish. (Just removing most of the old seasonings and the salt shakers saved a lot of space. I moved all syrups and flavorings to a lazy Susan on the kitchen table, including sugar free. I made small labels for each shelf so that I could put BEANS together, and VEGETABLES in a 2-can stack. I also keep lots of frozen veggies in the freezer, and no more than one heat-and-eat entree or side dish.
I’ve always known that some people buy for one day at a time, but we have only recently started doing that. I am currently bedridden after a stroke. Hubby needs to get out of the house for a break every day. So he goes to Kroger or Walmart to pick up a tomatoe or can of salt-free veggies or something. Sure saves space. I do have room to store larger items, like a sack of potatoes, but they often go bad until we use them all. So: buy what you need and what you will eat or share, without wasting money or space. Hang hooks and baskets on the top and sides and doors of your pantry to get more space. Best wishes!
Something that might work is the soda can boxes. The cans would roll forward. If you have enough space, you could stack a few .
Putting similarly shaped items together will definitely free up more space. So, boxes together, packets in a small container that can be stacked on something else and cans with smaller ones in the front and larger/taller toward the back. You can also get an over the door hanger for thin items and just keep them on the inside of the door. Think outside the box for this challenge. What other space in the kitchen can you use? Is there a spot where you could stack craft boxes and make a sort of impromptu display of cans and packages? Can you hang nets or baskets? Maybe set up an extra shelf or lazy Susan over the fridge? Don't limit yourself to just one cabinet!
