Is it lacquered wood? If so, usually best to have that done professionally . It needs to be done in a spray booth.

If you can take it outside, use a paint sprayer and paint it with a good primer, then two coats of whatever paint color you like.

What do you want to do with it? Change the color, or go back to original wood. If you want to repaint it, I would take it out and strip it well to get down to the wood and then primer and paint it again with a paint sprayer. If you want wood grain look, after stripping and sanding well, you will want to stain it and finish off with a sealer of some sort. We love Waterlox!

Annie Sloan or Jolie paint brands will both stick to the black table. :) No sanding or priming.

The simplest update is paint. Depending on the wood under the finish, once stripped I would consider wood finish on top and white legs. Or whitewash it.
